11 Habits of Happy Moms

God wants you to be happy. Rejoice if it’s a beautiful day or a day that makes you question everything. Rejoice even more because you are a mom.

Some days feel like you have no time for anything. On those days, the wisest thing to do is surrender, hold your little ones close and give them your full undivided attention.

Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (Psalms 127:3)

How to Be A Happy Mom

1. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Take a load off and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance on how to raise each of your children individually. Pray for each child by name, as each is unique and has different needs. Additionally, open your heart and invite the joy of the Holy Spirit first thing each morning.

2. Lean on Jesus

The reality is we moms often do more than 50% of the care for our kids and homes. Although, we should ask our partners for more help, we must have a Plan-B in case they don’t. We can’t wait for others to change before we can start being happy moms. Sometimes that means we must get creative to meet our needs.

Meeting your own needs, doesn’t mean doing everything yourself, it means leaning on Jesus more than ever. Jesus said:

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:28-40)

3. Trust God

Enjoy your life right now. Spend quality time with your kids. Don’t worry about the future or dwell on the past.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.(Matthew 6:34)

4. Give Thanks

Thank God for your blessing and share your troubles with God first.
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.(Psalms 9:1)

5. Respect Yourself

You are worth spending the time to wash your hair and wear clothes that fit properly. Every day is a miracle dress up and show up for your kids as the awesome human you are!

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? (Corinthians 3:16)

6. Assert Yourself

When you are a mom it is extra important to be true to yourself. Say what you mean, ask for what you want, say “no” confidently when you mean no.

All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. (Matthew 5:37)

7. Be Yourself

You are unique and in this world for a reason, let your light shine and share it with your children. Happy moms model what it means to “be yourself” for their kids. Happy moms don’t compare themselves or their kids. Your authentic self is the best mom for your kids.

Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else. (Galatians 6:4)

8. Develop Your God-given Gifts

God gave each of us gifts, it can be simple like the gift of communication, the gift of making pretty things, the gift of teaching, writing, cooking… whatever you love doing and need to do, make it a priority devote time to it and share your unique gift with your children and the world. Your gift is aligned with God’s purpose for you don’t waste it.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

9. Spend Time Outdoors

God made a beautiful world for us to go out and enjoy with our children and family! Step outside for a change of scenery. Spending time outdoors will inspire you to get extra goofy with your kids!
For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands(Isaiah 55:12)

10. Prioritize Your Time

There are only 24 hours in day and there is only one you. Prioritizing helps keep your energy high for your kids. You can’t do it all, pick what matters most and just do that.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)

11. Have A Support System

Happy moms have safe people in their lives they can count on. We are by nature social creatures, even the most introverted among us. It is especially important for parents to have healthy friendships. Pray for good friends to enter your life and remember Jesus is your best friend.
A cord of three strands is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

May you be filled with the supernatural Joy of God’s Holy Spirit. Amen.

Sincerely,

Laura
