June Garden: Vegetable Planting Guide, Zone 10

With spring coming to and end and summer on the way, there is still much to do, but do take some time to do a happy dance as your plants grow a couple inches with every sunny day. If you are going away for a summer vacation be sure to keep your plants happy and healthy by mulching before you go. The mulch will help the water evaporate slower to keep your plants hydrated while you are away.

Red Flame Grapes Zone 10
Our red grapes are almost ripe.

June blooms, white fields of endless fruity scented chamomile! Picking and drying my chamomile in the afternoon is one of my favorite pleasures. Ever since I read Peter Rabbit sipped a cup of chamomile tea I’ve been hooked. My cupboards are full of pretty jars with chamomile flowers ready to be sipped to celebrate the end of a long day.

JUNE TO-DO LIST

  • Check apricot and peach trees for June-drop and clear fallen fruit.
  • Check fruit trees for water needs.
  • Space emerging fruit 2” apart.
  • Replenish mulch around fruit trees if necessary.
  • Water in the early morning because it gets HOT around here in June.
  • Check on tomato and tomatillo plants for disease, pests.
  • Sprinkle compost over the crowns of heavy feeders: Tomato, Corn, Tomatillo
  • Set up rain barrels before the rains start again.
