Sweet Potato Pie
Sweet potato pie is absolutely delicious and a healthier alternative to pumpkin pie. Sweet potatoes have a lower glycemic index than pumpkins which makes them better suited for any diabetics in your family.

INGREDIENTS
- Pre-made pie crust, my Best Pie Crust Recipe here
- 1.5 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped (2 large sweet potatoes)
- 4 Tbs butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar*
- 1/4 cup brown sugar*
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp lemon juice (juice of half a lemon)
MAKE IT
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
- *Steam sweet potatoes for 20 minutes;
- Mash potatoes and lemon juice in a bowl
- Mix sugar, butter, and potatoes together
- Add cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice
- Fold in eggs, one at a time
- Add vanilla extract
- Once filling is mixed thoroughly pour into baked pie crust.
- Bake pie for 45 to 50 minutes, until center has set.

Last Thanksgiving, I went to the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Ceremony on Alcatraz Island, a family tradition started by my late mother.
