Swiss Chard and Pasta Recipe
This pasta and Swiss chard dish smells like pizza and it’s picky eater approved! Swiss chard is in season almost year round which makes it a convenient veggie to have on hand in the garden. Swiss chard imparts an earthy flavor and tastes great with summer garlic, onions, and tomatoes.
Swiss chard is a member of the beet family. It should be harvested or cut back once it reaches 1-foot, so that it doesn’t loose its flavor. can be eater raw or cooked.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, chard should be grown in a sunny spot, the soil kept moist, and seeds down in spring through late summer.
Ingredients
2 cups any pasta you have, dry
4 cups fresh Swiss chard**, chopped into 1/2” strips
8 Roma tomatoes,* peeled, seeded and diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
3 Tbs olive oil
Have all your ingredients ready and prepped:
*Prep tomatoes: Boil tomatoes for 45 seconds or until skins wrinkle, peel them, seed them, and dice them.
**Prep Swiss chard: wash, peel off stalks, roughly chop into 1/2” strips
Make It
- Cook pasta according to directions in salted water with a dash of olive oil and oregano. Drain and set aside.
- Bring 1 quart of salted water to a boil and boil the Swiss chard for 3 minutes, remove from water, set aside.
- Meanwhile, in a 4qt pot heat oil until it starts to sizzle, add onion and garlic, and sauté over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add diced tomatoes to pot with garlic and onions and sauté for another five minutes.
- Add swish chard, pasta, and Parmesan cheese.
