Manzanilla is the Spanish word for Chamomile which means little apple, an ode to Chamomile’s sweet fragrance.
Chamomile, also known as Manzanilla has been used in folk medicine throughout the world for centuries. Chamomile goes by many names which hint at its amazing healing properties. Chamomile is mostly recognized for its ability to promote relaxation, however Chamomile is a powerful medicine capable of much more. The two most common types of Chamomile are Roman Chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis) and German Chamomile (Matricaria  Recutita). 

BENEFITS OF CHAMOMILE
Antispasmodic - Muscle relaxing to treat and prevents muscle spasms including those associated with mild asthma, digestive issues, and menstrual cramps.

Analgesic - Relieves pain and tea (not oil) may even soothe teething babies. 

Diaphoretic - Chamomile infusions can detoxify our bodies by inducing perspiration.

TYPES OF CHAMOMILE
German Chamomile v Roman Chamomile
German Chamomile contains a higher concentration of essential oils and is more potent than Roman Chamomile. German chamomile is pictured above and is distinguishable from Roman Chamomile by its spongy yellow center and downward facing white petals.

USE AND PRESERVATION
Tea Chamomile tea my be brewed out of both fresh and dry flowers by steeping in hot water for 5 minutes. 

Infusion Chamomile infusions are made by steeping flowers in hot water for 1 hour: 1 tablespoon of flowers per 8 oz of hot water. Refrigerate immediately and use within 3 days.

Preservation Preserve Chamomile for later use by drying its flowers out of direct sunlight and store in the dark in an airtight container.
